Having been with Avid since the company first started out as DigiDesign in the early \u201890s, he quickly became their Product Specialist in Los Angeles, offering Pro Tools installations, training, and support to major studios like Warner Bros., Universal, Capitol, The Village, Record One, Westlake, and more.<\/p>\n

Today, Jon is a Pro Tools Master Instructor for Avid, travelling the world and training Pro Tools users of all levels<\/a>. He also teaches at the world-renowned Berklee College of Music.<\/p>\n

In this clip, Jon teaches you how to create a click track.<\/h2>\n

You should start by opening a new, blank Pro Tools session. From there, select the Track menu and go all the way to the bottom: there you\u2019ll find the option to Create Click Track.<\/p>\n

Your click will automatically appear in the Edit and Mix windows as an auxiliary input with the Pro Tools Click II plugin loaded.<\/p>\n

You can change the tempo from the MIDI Controls section in the Edit window. It isn\u2019t always enabled by default, so here\u2019s how to do so:<\/p>\n

Navigate to the upper right corner of the Edit window and find a drop-down arrow called the Edit Window View Selector. Click it, and you\u2019ll find MIDI Controls as an option. Once you\u2019ve enabled MIDI Controls, you\u2019ll see tempo as a small area within the window. Click the number and type in the desired tempo, hitting return when you\u2019re finished. The click track will now sync with the tempo you\u2019ve chosen in MIDI Controls.<\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t hear your click, make sure that it\u2019s enabled. Again from the MIDI Controls section, you\u2019ll see a small metronome icon. Click the metronome button to enable the click track\u2013it will turn blue to signify that it\u2019s selected.
\nThe shortcut to turn the metronome on and off is number 7 on the numeric keypad.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To tap the tempo of a song you\u2019ve already imported into Pro Tools, simply select the tempo field in MIDI Controls and tap the T key on your keyboard.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Additionally, if you know you\u2019ll need a click track in every new session you create, there\u2019s a selectable preference to do so automatically.
