Schneider employs a wide array of microphones to capture the full spectrum of sound from the drum kit. He believes that using multiple mics allows for greater tonal variety and flexibility during the mixing process. When mixing Moses is able to alternate completely different drum sounds to create both subtle and huge changes in the sound, adding an enormous amount of interest to the songs mix.
Moses breaks down his equipment and mixing choices with his own characteristic sense of humour (and his signature footwear!) and this is a fascinating insight into his process. By the end you will. be able to squeeze every last drop of power and dynamism out of your recordings with ease.
People are people
Moses emphasizes the importance of eye contact between musicians during live recordings. To facilitate this, he positioned the drummer slightly forward from the usual corner favoured by many at Hansa, this allowed for a better interaction with the vocalist. The guitar and bass amplifiers were set up in a separate area, known as The Marble Room, to minimise bleed and focus on the drums and vocals. Baffles were placed between the amps. This is as real as it gets – you will get to see how Moses takes a rough idea of a track and makes it shine with greatness.
