Stephen J. Lipson is an English record producer, engineer, guitarist, and songwriter, celebrated for his inventive approach to sound. He began building studios and playing in bands before breaking through with Sniff ‘n’ the Tears, later joining Trevor Horn at ZTT Records to help craft some of the 1980s’ most iconic records with Grace Jones, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Propaganda, Pet Shop Boys, and Paul McCartney. He went on to produce and co-write Grammy- and Brit-winning albums for Annie Lennox, work with Jeff Beck, Will Young, Geri Halliwell, and Billie Eilish, and partner with Hans Zimmer on major film scores including Top Gun: Maverick, No Time to Die, and Dune: Part Two. Often contributing guitar, keyboards, and programming, Lipson brings a distinctive creative stamp to every project, cementing his reputation as one of the UK’s most versatile and influential producers.
